![]() SHU's Arman Dixon first Pioneer to run at Olympic Trials |
July 1, 2008
Sacred Heart track & field standout Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) became the first athlete in school history to compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials running in the 400 meter preliminaries earlier this week. Dixon finished fourth in his heat but just missed advancing to the semifinal round at the 10-day event being held in Eugene, Oregon.
Dixon clocked in at 46.70 in a second heat that featured the likes of Jeremy Wariner who took home the Gold Medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Wariner ran the fastest time in the seven runner heat at 46.04 seconds but Dixon's time was faster then that of Derrick Brew, the Bronze Medal winner in the event at the 2004 Games. The top-three runners in each heat and the next four fastest runners advance to the semifinals.
Dixon has declared for the 200 meters preliminaries to be held on Friday evening but will have to wait and see if he will be included in the field of 30 runners.
